Diane Grubbe

Diane Grubbe has appeared as a soloist with orchestras in the US and Europe including the San Francisco Concerto Orchestra and Calabasas Chamber Orchestra in Southern California, with whom she recorded the Vivaldi Piccolo Concerto for their CD "The Baroque Concerto."

As an orchestra flutist, Ms. Grubbe freelances in the San Francisco Bay Area, performing with many groups including the Vallejo Symphony, Pocket Opera, Napa Valley Symphony, Golden Gate Opera and Lamplighters.
contemporary/new music
Drawn to the evolving tonal possibilities of the flute, Diane enjoys studying and performing contemporary works. Contemporary music performances include the US premiere of John Wolf Brennan's solo flute piece, Drei ver-flix-te Stücke and appearances in the Bay Area retrospective of Pauline Oliveros' work where she performed Trio for Flute, Piano and Page Turner with Sarah Cahill and Monique Buzzarté. She is a frequent guest performer with the contemporary music ensemble sfSoundGroup, performing works by Luciano Berio, James Tenney and others. She has also written about new music for the flute.

Ms. Grubbe is a graduate of San Francisco State University and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Her instructors have included Paul Renzi, Lloyd Gowen and Tim Day of the San Francisco Symphony; and Barbara Chaffe, Patty Farrell and Jim Walker of the San Francisco Opera and Ballet Orchestras. She has had individual coachings with Gerardo Levy, Robert Dick and Tadeu Coelho. She has performed in masterclasses with Julius Baker, Heinz Holliger and Robert Stallman.
